Library Programs
The Scotch Plains Public Library offers a variety of programs for children. Our Programs are incorporate principals from Every Child Read To Read®.
Budding Bookworms – Join us for Budding Bookworms, where babies from birth to 17 months dive into a world of sensory fun with stories, songs, and playful movement activities! This engaging program, designed for little ones and their caregivers, sparks early literacy skills and offers a joyful, interactive experience. Afterwards, little ones and their caregivers can stick around for social playtime where babies can interact and explore with new friends!
Storytots – Dive into a world of wonder with Storytots, our delightful storytime adventure for little ones aged 18 to 35 months and their caregivers! Each session is a magical mix of stories, singing, and fun-filled play. Together, we’ll explore charming picture books, sing songs, and enjoy interactive activities that spark creativity and support early learning. Get ready to discover the joy of reading with us—where every story is an adventure and every moment is a chance to play and grow
Preschool Play – Children ages 3 to 5 can join us for this interactive storytime program. This program is designed to practice school readiness skills and foster a love of reading and learning in young children.
Pajama Storytime – Children are invited to join us for a fun and exciting nighttime storytime! Grab your favorite stuffed animal and wear your pajamas for a fun evening of stories and songs. This program is geared for children ages 1 to 3 but all are welcome! ASL interpretation will be provided.
Saturday Storytime – The entire family is welcome to join us for this storytime each Saturday! Children and their caregivers can increase language development and comprehension with our stories, songs, and rhymes. Registration is not required for this event. (This program will not be held if there is another program occurring at the same time)

Early Literacy Resources & Activities
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten – This easy, fun program fosters a love of books and reading in children before they enter Kindergarten. This program is open to Fanwood and Scotch Plains library cardholders.
Early Intervention – Early intervention services are designed to address a problem or delay in development as early as possible. The services are available for infants and toddlers up to age three.
Early Literacy BINGO – Try out our fun BINGO board featuring fun activities to do with your little one!
Family Literacy Resources – State recommended resources and projects to do with your little one.
