Reference Sources

History Research Center – find articles, primary sources, images, videos, or news on a wide range of history topics. You can also choose to limit your search to these ‘Centers’ or subsets:

World Book Encyclopedia – search for articles, selected web links, animations, and interactive maps.

World Geography and Culture Online – includes a ‘History Overview’ and Timeline for countries of the world.

World Almanac for Kids – not just for kids! This provides concise but comprehensive articles on history topics, as well as primary sources and images.


Magazine and Journal Articles

Masterfile Premier – a multi-subject database offering magazine articles and primary source documents.

Academic Search Premier – a large academic multi-subject database, offering magazine, newspaper and academic journal articles.

If you find an article for which there is no ‘full text’ provided, try the Article Finder service. You’ll either be immediately directed to a free copy of the article, or to our interlibrary loan form where you can submit a request for a copy.

JSTOR Search – JSTOR provides access to journal articles, books, images, and primary sources in 75 disciplines. The Library does not subscribe, but you can search for their free full-text articles by selecting ‘Content I can access’.

Google Scholar – searches scholarly literature and academic resources and provides links to full-text where freely available.
