The New Catalog

On June 13, 2024, the Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium will launch a new library catalog for Scotch Plains and 42 other member libraries!

The process of transitioning to the new system will require us to run a temporary offline catalog between June 3 and June 12,  and certain services will be briefly suspended.  It’s especially important to note that you will need to have your library card (or the LMxPress app displaying your barcode) with you in order to borrow items during this time.

Once it’s up and running, the new system will offer a modern user interface designed to help you find what you need as easily and efficiently as possible.  The Library will have a delayed opening at 2pm on Thursday, June 13, in order for us to make sure everything is working smoothly.

The following information will let you know what to expect during and after the transition.

First, A Few Interruptions:

Starting on June 3, our current system will be offline. Because we won’t be using a ‘live’ system:

  • You won’t be able to place any new hold requests—but your existing holds will be transferred to the new system.
  • We won’t be able to issue, update, or renew library cards.
  • You won’t be able to pay fines or fees.
  • Items cannot be checked in and removed from your account.
  • There will be a limit of 5 checkouts per card.
  • Borrowing periods will be extended so that no due dates fall between June 1 and June 20, and we ask that you hold on to your borrowed items during this time.

Other Things to Know

  • You can still check out items in person at all LMxAC libraries—but you must bring your library card or display your barcode with the app.
  • All electronic resources will work without disruption during the transition. You can still use Hoopla and Libby to borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks.
  • The LMxPress Plus app will automatically update to work with the new system on or around June 13.
  • Your library card will work in the new system—no need for a new or updated card.

The Big Reveal

Beginning on June 13, you will see the new system! Improvements will include the following features:

  • You can easily select your preferred format (print, eBook, large print, etc.) directly from your search results.

  • Clicking on an author’s name anywhere in the catalog will display an author bio, other titles by the author, related topics, and more.

  • When viewing details about a book in a series, you’ll easily be able to find the other books in the series.
