Conservation in the Classroom

Monday, October 30, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Would you like to know more about some of our area’s native species?  Are you concerned with wildlife conservation?  Would you like to meet some turtle hatchlings?

Join us for an informative and fun presentation by Zach Rittner, advisor for the Conservation in the Classroom program at the Scotch Plains Fanwood High School!  Conservation in the Classroom provides a head-start for several local species, including Rainbow trout, Northern Bobwhite Quail, and Northern Diamond Terrapins.  Students raise these species in the classroom during the school year, helping them to develop a deep appreciation for the value of wildlife.

Mr. Rittner will share fascinating information about the lifecycles and conservation status of each of these important species–and you’ll even get to meet this year’s terrapin hatchlings!

Kids with an interest in wildlife conservation are welcome to attend.

Registration is recommended.

Terrapin from last school year’s program!

Zach Rittner is the head of the environmental science department at SPFHS.  He is also a National Geographic Certified Educator and a Wildlife Ambassador for Chris Morgan Wildlife.  Read about his incredible Summer 2023 trip to the Arctic Circle!
