Adventure Underground: All About Cave Exploration

Thursday, May 23 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Hear what it is like to explore where no one has gone before!

Join us for a talk, discussion, and exhibit presented by local caver Carl Heitmeyer.  Carl first began wild caving in 1990,  and soon began to pursue vertical caving, which requires special training and equipment.  He has caved in numerous states, as well as in Mexico, Peru, Ireland, and Croatia, and has rapelled into deep drops such as Ellisons Cave (GA), and Sotono del Goldrinas in Mexico.

As a firefighter,  it was natural for him to follow this with rescue training!  He has participated in several rescues, and remains an active volunteer with the NJ-Initial Response Team.

Carl will familiarize us with basic cave geology, cave formation and the resulting cave environment.  He’ll also cover
cave preparedness, attire, gear, safety and rescue.

You’ll learn what it’s like to explore limestone caves, and get to see some vertical cave gear equipment.

Whether you’re interested in trying caving for yourself, or just like hearing about adventurous activities, don’t miss this unique event!

Registration is requested (not required).
