Surveillance Policy

STATEMENT OF SURVEILLANCE POLICY

The Scotch Plains Public Library strives to maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and community members using our facility. It is the Board’s policy to employ video security surveillance systems to document daily activities at the facility as deemed necessary by the Library Director. Security cameras may be installed in situations and locations where the security of either equipment or people would be enhanced. Employees and service providers are to review and comply with the Policy, Administrative Guidelines, and relevant federal and state laws in performing their duties and functions related to the operation of the video surveillance system. Furthermore, cameras will be positioned to only record identified public areas and exit/entrance areas. Video security surveillance systems complement other means being used to promote and foster a safe and secure environment. Surveillance activities involving the collection, retention, use, disclosure and disposal of personal information in the form of video surveillance shall not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. The focus of the cameras used in video surveillance will not cover areas where there is an expectation of privacy.
