This month our graphic novel club is hosting a virtual visit from author Sarah Jamila Stevenson, and anyone in grades 3-7 is welcome to join! Registration is required. An author bio and the registration form are below.
This month we’re hosting a virtual visit with author and illustrator Sarah Jamila Stevenson! Sarah Jamila Stevenson is a writer, artist, editor and graphic designer in Northern California. She is the author of three YA novels: THE LATTE REBELLION (Flux, 2011), UNDERNEATH (Flux, 2013) and THE TRUTH AGAINST THE WORLD (Flux, 2014). Her first novel for young adults, THE LATTE REBELLION, was a Scholastic Book Club pick as well as an IPPY Bronze Medalist in Multicultural Children’s Fiction. Her work has been featured on Capital Public Radio’s Insight and NPR’s Tell Me More with Michel Martin. Since 2005 she has contributed children’s literature reviews and information to Dispatches from Wonderland (writingya.com), a blog she shares with fellow young adult author Tanita S. Davis, and she is a regular participant in the Cybils Awards. Her most recent publication is a middle grade graphic novel with artist Veronica Agarwal, ALEXIS VS. SUMMER VACATION, released in 2019 by Avenue A Books. Sarah also teaches online courses in Humanities at Modesto Junior College. In 2021, she began a collaborative webcomic with fellow YA author Josh Berk called Big Yikes, available on Instagram at @bigyikescomic. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, video games, and spending time with her husband and two cats.
