PBS Books Virtual Event: Vanguard

Wednesday, July 29 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Do you want to learn more about the Women’s Suffrage movement and its crucial, modern-day conversations? Join PBS Books and Scholar Martha Jones, Ph.D., to discuss her soon-to-be-released book: Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All. We are thrilled to have a panel of amazing Trailblazers, with poet Evie Shockley and novelist Tayari Jones. This live event can be found on the PBS Books Facebook Page.

This event will be moderated by Senior Executive Producer of Detroit Public Television, Fred Nahhat, and will explore women’s fight for the right to vote, African American women in the suffrage movement, and ongoing challenges to voting throughout American history. Dr. Jones will highlight aspects of her new book, the panelists will provide their unique perspectives on the topic and how they address these important themes in their work, and audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions. The event will last approximately one hour.
