Be a Citizen Scientist: Help Track the Flu & COVID-19

August 28, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Citizen Science gives the Public an active role in Public Health!

Early detection and early response are key to preventing the spread of any disease —learn how you can quickly and easily contribute important (and anonymous) data that allows real-time tracking of influenza and COVID-19.

Join SciStarter online for an introduction to citizen science, hear about our summer reading activities, and learn how to participate in important citizen science projects through a presentation and online Q&A.  Meet Autumn Gertz of the Flu Near You project — you can submit your own questions on the Q&A/Chat features during the event.

The Flu Near You  is a Citizen Science project that has been leveraging the power of the crowd to provide vital data  about influenza-like illness for several years.   In response to the current pandemic, Covid Near You was launched in March 2020, and has provided insight into local occurrence that has proved essential given current limited testing.  Take just a few seconds to report how you’ve been feeling. It’s free and anonymous.

Please register on Zoom.

This event is supported by Scotch Plains Public Library, the Network of the National of Libraries of Medicine, All of Us, and SciStarter.

We are excited to be participating in this new series, “Summer Reading Meets Citizen Science,” presented by the Network of the National Library of Medicine and SciStarter.org.

Find out more about contributing to other Citizen Science projects–there’s something for every interest!
