Blind Date With A Book

Check out the shelf near the reference desk to take a peek at our new “Blind Date” display. Each book is wrapped so you don’t know what you’re checking out. There is a small description to help you pick the one you might like most. People always say “Don’t choose a book by it’s cover!” Well, now you don’t have to worry about the cover at all. Stop by throughout February and you just might fall in love with a new favorite novel! All titles are from the YA collection.

There’s still time to register for the first YA cooking class on Wednesday, January 24th at 6:00pm! Students in grades 5-12 can sign up to learn how to make dinner and dessert quesadillas. Please list any food allergies on the registration form.

Teen Halloween Party

Join us on Wednesday, October 25 at 6pm for our first teen Halloween party! We’ll be making edible dirt and watching something festive. Until then, check out the display for some creepy books to read to get into the Halloween spirit!

Pizza Party, Meet and Greet, and YA Chat Club

Join us this Wednesday, October 11, for the YA Chat Club, our revamped version of a book club. For the first half hour we’ll do a pizza party and meet & greet with the new teen librarian, so you can hear all about what’s coming up for teens at SPPL. Parents are welcome to join for this portion of the program, then during the second half teens can stay and hang out for the club. The theme for October is Supernatural, so get ready to talk about your favorite books, TV shows, movies, and games!

It’s Banned Books Week!

Every year, we take some time to celebrate our “right to read” with the Banned Books Week. We’ve taken some books that have been banned or challenged and put them on display on the shelf behind the reference desk. Take some time to check them out! If you’d like to read more about Banned Books Week, or see lists of books that are frequently banned or challenged in schools, book stores, and libraries, here is a great website. You’ll find information about censorship, which banned books shaped our country, and how the movement began!

Teen Programs in October

Stop in on Mondays and Wednesdays in October from 3:30 to 4:30 for our Middle School Scene. We’ll be doing everything from playing on iPads to trivia and making snacks. Keep an eye on the teen calendar for other events throughout the month and don’t forget to come in and check out some of our new books!
