MARCH 1 @ 7:30 Author James Fisher speaks about the longshoremen, gangsters and the crusading priest who inspired "On the Waterfront".

The bustling port of New York was the scene for Elia Kazan’s groundbreaking 1954 movie. Come to the library on March 1 (postponed from Wednesday, February 10th due to snow) to find out about the longshoremen, the gangsters and the crusading priest who inspired the film’s plot. James T. Fisher will also discuss the real story behind the film’s making during the McCarthy era. The Wall Street Journal calls his book, On the Irish Waterfront ” a fascinating work of history”.

We will also screen the film, “On the Waterfront” in advance of Mr. Fisher’s visit. Film showings: Wednesday February 3 at 1:00 pm and 7 pm.
