NJ Makers Day

NJMDWB

New Jersey Makers Day is a two-day event to enhance community engagement and develop connections among New Jersey residents by collaborating with multi-type libraries, museums, small businesses and others to promote and explore new opportunities for entrepreneurship, innovation and hands-on learning experiences.

During this event, the Scotch Plains Public Library will be offering a series of workshops and events for Scotch Plains and Fanwood Residents.  Online registration will open for our workshops on Monday, March 13th.  Additionally, we will be offering a variety of hands on demonstration and play stations.

Workshops and Events

Friday, March 24

  • 10:00am – Beading workshop (adults) *
    Create your own memory wire bracelet with local artist Eva Sienkiewicz. All materials are supplied by the library. Online registration is required.
  • 3:30pm – 3Doodler Start Workshop (ages 8 and up)*
    Check out our new 3Doodler Start Pens during this interactive workshop. Learn how to use the pens and create fun designs. Registration is required.

Saturday, March 25

  • 9:30am – Family Maker Creations*
    Using items in our mystery boxes, families can create their own fun designs in less than 45 minutes. Online registration is required. This program is recommended for children ages 4 and up.
  • 11:00am – Music Storytime
    Join us for our weekly Saturday Storytime with a Makers twist! Children will create their own musical drums with recycled materials. No registration required.
  • 11:00am – Kawaii Felt Kitty (ages 16 and up)*
    Calling all cat and Pusheen fans! Create your own adorable squishable plush kitty. Registration is required.
  • 1:00pm – Beading (ages 12 and up)*

  • 1:30pm – Family Maker Creations*

  • 3:00pm – Brushbot Race (ages 6 and up)*
    Challenge your friends during our 2nd annual Brushbot race! Winners get bragging rights! Online registration is required.

Interactive Demonstrations and Play Stations

  • littleBits
    littleBits are small circuits built to snap together without soldering, wiring, or programming. Each bit has its own function. Make something that does something – light up, buzz, spin, and more!
  • Makey Makey
    Makey Makey is a tool that can turn everyday objects into touchpads.
  • Marshmallow Challenge
    This engineering challenge consists of 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 yard of tape, 1 yard of string, and one marshmallow. All you have to to is build the tallest freestanding structure that you can in 18 minutes!
  • Cricut
    Learn how to use a Cricut and cutout fun designs.
  • Button Maker
    Customize your own button or keychain.
  • Lego Tower Challenge
    In 10 minutes try to build the fastest freestanding Lego Tower that you can!

*Music Room will be designated as a shared, quiet study room for the day. Users will sign in and will have to share the space. NJ Room will be available for group meetings, following usual procedure.*
