Solar Eclipse Celebration
August 21 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us Monday, August 21st at 11am for a family friendly Eclipse Celebration here at the Scotch Plains Public Library. We will have fun family crafts and activities, themed treats, and participants get to create their own pinhole camera.
We will be offering free eclipse glasses while supplies last.
We have fewer than 50 eclipse viewing glasses available and have been overwhelmed by the demand for them.
In an effort to ensure access to both the library and the surrounding businesses, we ask the cooperation of all residents seeking eclipse viewing glasses.
The glasses will be distributed in the following manner:
- On Monday, August 21st, beginning at 11:00 am, glasses will be given on a “first come, first served” basis with a limit of one per household.
- Lining up for glasses will not be permitted prior to 10:00 am and the line will be formed outside of the library in a designated area only.
- Those seeking glasses will be admitted to the building in small groups.
- Each person who receives glasses must be 18 years of age or older, sign a waiver, and be a resident cardholder in good standing. A valid library card must be presented.
The safety of our community members is of paramount importance to us. Unobstructed access to the library’s main entrance and to the parking lot must be maintained at all times.
If you can’t be with us, here are NASA’s simple instructions for making your own pinhole viewer!
