Fort Delaware Civil War Prison — So close to home!

Kay Keenan of the Fort Delaware Society speaks about the fort. Covering approximately 6 acres on an island located between New Jersey and Delaware, Fort Delaware served as a prison for Confederate prisoners of war most of whom were captured at Gettysburg. 2,436 Confederate prisoners died at Fort Delaware and their bodies were transported by boat to the New Jersey side of the Delaware River and buried in trenches.
